The summer camp was held at Pakshikere Church on 16th to 18th April 2010. 45 students from 4th standard to 10th standard took part in this camp. Bro. Geroge and Bro. Joswin from the Diocese of Mangalore were the ones who conducted this summer camp. Sr. Prameela O. P. and Sr. Leena O. P. from Maria Kripalaya Convent (Dominican Order) were animators. The inaugural function was at 9 o’clock. Bro. George welcomed the whole gathering. Rev. Fr. Sunil Veigas the Parish Priest of Thallur addressed the children with an ice break. He then enlightened the minds of the children through a story which conveyed the message that ‘to grow in holiness with good friendship’. Mr. Louis D’ Souza Vice president of Pakshikere Church was present there to encourage the children.
On the first day [16th April] children were divided into 4 groups and were given the name for each group such as Airtel, Docomo, Vodafone and Idea. The first session began at 9:45a.m. The whole programme included different types of entertainment, group activities, quiz competition and out door games. The output sessions were on the importance of Holy Eucharist and on the life of the Priest. The program got over at 5 o’clock by prayer.
The second day [17th April] of the camp was begun with a prayer service. Thereafter, each group of children presented the previous days report and evaluated it. The sessions of the day were focused on Leadership and the life of saints. The children were very enthusiastic to come forward for all the activities and games. The children presented the autobiography of St. Jude the patron saint. Bros. Geroge and Joswin conducted the quiz for the children based on the Old & New Testaments. The children participated actively. The day came to an end with a prayer.
The 3rd day [18th April] of the camp was begun with the Holy Eucharist at 9:15 a.m. Thereafter the representatives of the each group presented the report of the previous days and evaluated it. There was an activity for the children to prepare wealth from waste and it was really marvelous to see them making the best use of the waste. Many of the children learned for the first time how to make best use of the waste. In the after noon the children had the cultural activities in groups. All activities held in the groups helped the children to grow the team spirit and the creativity.
At 4 o’clock in the evening a stage programme was organized to conclude the summer camp. Fr. Alban D’ Souza, parish priest & Fr. Anil D’ Souza, assistant parish priest were also present. Two members from each group shared what they profited from the camp. There was a suggestion that the days of the camp could be extended for six days. At this occasion Fr. Anil spoke on the need of the camp for the growing children and Fr. Alban spoke on the impact of the camp on the children. Bro. George summarized the whole camp with the vote of thanks. Finally the camp came to an end successfully with a prayer and a blessing.
